Chords are a huge part of learning Music
Chords play a very important role in learning music, and you will come across them in some form in all songs that you play. They are quite easy to learn once you have grasped the formula of how to work them out, and they are a huge part of music. They are fun to play and you can adapt them to suit your song…i.e. if you are accompanying somebody, or are playing in a band, you will use chords quite frequently. A simple way to think of CHORDS is to remember that you have 3 notes in a chord and they are have to be played at the same time….
The most common chords which feature in almost every rock & pop song are MAJOR & MINOR CHORDS.
MAJOR are the ones that sound very happy and joyful and MINOR are the SAD sounding chords. Once you have learn’t both MAJOR AND MINOR, you will start to be able to HEAR the difference in the sounds of them.
The easy to follow formula to work out both MAJOR & MINOR chords is quite simple, and you can work them out like this….
If we start with MAJOR, and to keep it simple we will work out C MAJOR to start with, so C will be your ROOT note….then you will climb up FOUR STEPS, to the right, including the BLACK NOTES, and your second note will be E….Then the final note in your chord will be up a FURTHER 3 STEPS, so your last note will be G…..So here you have the notes of C E & G, and when struck together make C MAJOR CHORD. So now if you go away and work out all the MAJOR CHORDS, so work out D E F G A & B. You then have a set of chords to work with.
To work out MINOR CHORDS, is just as easy, and it works like this….We will work out A MINOR together, then you can work the rest out by yourself….What you do is you start on A, which is your ROOT note, then you climb up 3 STEPS to the RIGHT, and your 2nd note in your chord will be C, then you climb up a FURTHER FOUR STEPS, so your last note in the chord is E, so here you have A MINOR CHORD…Notes A C E, and when struck together they give out a nice MINOR SOUND! So if you work out all the MINOR CHORDS so B C D E F & G, you can start mixing MAJOR and MINOR chords together and you will be surprised at how GREAT they sound!!!

Learn to Play Piano Without Reading Music - A.S.A.Piano
Learn to Play Piano Without Reading Music - A.S.A.Piano
A huge majority of pianists learn to play piano without reading music. That doesn't mean that they disregard the basic principles of music, for instance learning chords and basic scale patterns but it just means that they will pick things up by ear as opposed to reading it from a musical score.
In a way this can be quite a good thing as it gives a pianist the chance to really express themselves rather than your playing being restricted to what you see from a music score. You can sometimes spot a pianist who has been musically trained because everything about their playing is very structured and although it may be note perfect it just lacks any feeling.
One way to learn play piano without the need to read music is to pick a simple song that you like and learn the chord structure. This can be done in a variety of ways such as listening to the song and trying to pick out the chords by ear, or you can very often find video footage of either the original artist or someone covering the song, and you can then learn the patterns by watching what they are doing. Alternatively you could search for the Piano chords on the web.
All these methods will allow you to learn piano without reading music, and it will free up more time to concentrate on playing.
To really expand your creativity you could just pick up some chords that you like and have a go at writing your own simple song. I remember my first song I composed, and I still playing today, as its unique and personal to me.

Using The Most Basics theory to Get Started Playing The Piano - A.S.A.Piano
Using The Most Basics theory to Get Started Playing The Piano
A lot of pianists learn how to play piano without ever reading music. They still use the basics of theory, to get started, for example to learn chords, scales, and popular patterns, but they will train themselves to play by ear, rather than relying on a musical score.
Playing by ear is a positive thing, and some of the best pianists in the world can’t read music, they play purely by ear, which enables you to put a lot more feeling into your songs, and very often musicians that play just by relying on a score, don’t seem to have any dynamic in their playing.
A good way to learn some songs without music is to pick a song that you are very familiar with, and try to pick something simple to start with, and to then learn what chords are in it. If you have the music playing in your stereo, try and pin point a few main chords, and then work out the rest from here. For the rhythm focus on one of the chords initially, and keep playing this, until you find a suitable rhythm for it. You will be able to find the chords on the internet to help you out if you need too.
After a while you will find a method that works best for you, for some it’s a matter of listening to the CD, and playing along to it, others its finding the chords out from another source and having a songsheet to follow, or you could mix both of these, but whatever way you do it, I can guarantee you be completely satisfied and the end result being that you have learned a new song without relying on sheet music.
Another good way to train yourself to play by ear is to try and figure out some melodies of your own. Find some chords that you like the sound of so maybe two MAJOR & two MINOR chords, and try putting something together from these. You will be surprised how good they sound.
