How to Leap Higher - Targeting the Right Muscle Fibers to Leap Higher

How to Leap Higher - Targeting the Right Muscle Fibers to Leap Higher

How do I target the correct muscle fibers in my vertical training?

Bodybuilders and cross country runners are interested in training slow twitch muscle fibers. But if you play basketball, volleyball, or just want to jump higher, you're going to want to target your fast twitch muscle fibers, not your slow.

You may be wondering how an athlete can even know which muscles are being recruited in the weight room. There are certain exercises which, if followed, can train your body to recruit fast twitch muscles, every time, at their highest intensity.

In the weight room try to lift in excess of 85% of your 1RM. Research has shown, the heavier the weights, the more you are recruiting your fast twitch muscle fibers.

Always aim for speed. When lifting weights or performing other exercises, the quicker you are able to perform them, the more likely you will recruit the best type of muscle fiber (fast twitch) to increase your vertical. This may seem obvious, but many athletes train slowly and laboriously. Short spurts at maximum strength are best to train your vertical.

Plyometrics. If you don't include plyometrics into your current training, you are missing out. Plyometrics convince the muscles to contract more powerfully and quickly, helping athletes without a perfect athletic genetic inheritance to train muscles in the correct way.

Complex training is the most effective training technique. A combination of correct principles including both plyometrics and weight or resistance training will recruit the correct muscle fibers to get maximum results.

If you're training your vertical, do it correctly. Don't focus on the wrong training in the weight room. Learn to recruit your fast twitch muscles, and you'll find you'll be jumping more quickly, more powerfully, and more explosively than ever before.

If you're like most athletes who want to leap higher, you need quick, effective ways to put on muscle. Do you want to learn actionable ways to get the results you want?
